Bookings available Monday - Friday

TWO PASSES, THREE TOWNS & A LONG LUNCH

The Grand Winelands Escape

Set off from Cape Town at sunrise for a full-day luxury supercar experience through the Western Cape’s most scenic roads, mountain passes, valleys, vineyards and historic towns.

This is not a standard car rental or a self-planned drive. The experience operates on a lead-follow system, with your Grand Touring Co. guide driving ahead in a separate vehicle and communicating with guests via 2-way radio throughout the journey.

Depart Gardens before sunrise and head east beneath the mountains. Drive through Huguenot Tunnel, then return over Du Toitskloof Pass. Pause for coffee in Paarl, wander through Stellenbosch, and climb Helshoogte. End with a long lunch, an easy drive home, and three Cape wine towns behind you.

Curated from Sunrise to Return

Tunnels, Passes, Wine Towns, and a Long Lunch

06:00 - Departure from Gardens

The day begins before the city fully wakes, with a short radio briefing before the convoy eases out of Gardens and onto the N1. Empty morning roads, soft light, and a calm start set the tone for the full-day tour.

Huguenot Tunnel

The route slips beneath the Du Toitskloof mountains through the Huguenot Tunnel, a dramatic transition from the city side of the Cape into the open valleys beyond.

Du Toitskloof Pass Summit

After the tunnel, the drive turns onto the old R101 and climbs back over Du Toitskloof Pass. At the summit, the fleet pauses for a viewpoint stop, with Paarl Valley unfolding below in the morning light.

Paarl Coffee Stop

Descending into Paarl, the morning softens into a relaxed coffee and comfort stop. It is a chance to stretch, reset, and enjoy one of the Cape’s historic wine towns before the route continues.

Stellenbosch Village Pause

From Paarl, the drive carries through to Stellenbosch for a short leg-stretch beneath the oaks. Refined, historic, and beautifully paced, this stop adds a classic Cape Winelands moment to the morning.

Helshoogte & Tokara Summit

The second climb of the day rises over Helshoogte toward Tokara, where sweeping views down the valley create another standout scenic pause. It is a short viewpoint stop only, keeping the drive flowing toward Franschhoek.

Franschhoek Village & Lunch

The convoy settles in Franschhoek with time for a short village wander before lunch. The centrepiece of the day is a long, relaxed à la carte lunch.

Return to Cape Town

After lunch, the route turns home via the R45 and N1. With two mountain passes, three wine towns, and a full afternoon of Cape scenery behind you, the cars return to Gardens by mid-afternoon.

Distance

~270 km

Every road on this route is tarred and graded for low, wide supercars: the N1 highway out and back, the R101 over Du Toitskloof, freshly resurfaced at the end of 2025, the R310 over Helshoogte, and the R44 between Paarl and Stellenbosch. There is no gravel anywhere on the loop and no dirt approaches; the only stop on private ground, Tokara, is reached on a sealed estate drive.

The Two Passes

Du Toitskloof (R101) is the older road over the mountain, steep and beautifully made, climbing to around 820 m with blind crests and long banked bends. Drive it for the views.

The Huguenot Tunnel

The 3.9 km toll tunnel runs under the same mountains. The day uses it once, out through the tunnel, back over the pass, so there is a single light-vehicle toll of about R55 per car.

Speed Humps & Estate Entrances

Take the speed humps in Stellenbosch town and the  entrance at Tokara slowly and at an angle to protect the front splitters.

Wine & Driving

NO ALCOHOL ON THIS TOUR
Guests swap between driver and passenger through the day, so everyone is treated as a
driver and no alcohol is served or included. Tokara is a viewpoint stop only; lunch includes up to two soft drinks per guest. Any wine a guest is cleared to buy, and anything beyond the set lunch, is settled on their own account.
